This challenge is about coming up with ideas for how to improve the oral health prevention of gum disease leaflet so that we can improve communication about self-care with patients. This leaflet is currently available in NHS clinical guidelines, and we would like to hear from you on ways to improve it and make it more relevant and useful to patients.

The leaflet in this challenge has been edited to reflect YOUR suggestions and views. We would like to know if you think it does reflect your ideas, whether this version is better than the earlier version, and whether there are aspects left to improve.

Click in more details to download the leaflet and give us your honest thoughts and suggestions by clicking submit your post.

Time for a campaign?

I wonder where the leaflet will be seen - will it only be available in a few places and may not be picked up by those who need information?  I'm not sure what the extent of the problem is for gum disease, but perhaps it's time for a campaign (Radio adverts?) with a short and snappy strapline?  Perhaps something to think about? Animated video that could be shared?

Improvement

I like the leaflet more but I still think its a little crowded on the main page and could possible be on 3 sheets over all. I understand costs due to printing but if the leaflet was sectioned into stages after initial telling of why they got leaflet, then after stages then hints on flossing, whitening maybe put links on for more information to be found .

TEETH WHITENING

It is a shame there is not any more about whitening your teeth.

Make a Difference, Pretty Damn Quick

Leaflet is too complicated - KEEP IT SIMPLE!  My title show you need to do 5 things:- Mouthwash Use Diet Changing Plaque Losing Disease Stopping, and Quit Smoking then Summarise Complex Leaflet SIMPLY FOR BUSY PEOPLE!

Almost there but still some minor work?

I agree with other contributors that this has taken our ideas on board. Going down to three bullet points on the cover and including illustrations and a table make the leaflet a bit more accessible. I think it would look better if you could get the table on one page, especially as in the text you say “the table below lists some key recommendations …” and then there only seems to be one point there. Could you condense the section on fluoride toothpaste, on the next page, into a smaller space...

Looking Good!

I think version 2 is a great improvement and takes the comments received on v1 into account in a positive way.  It now has some really helpful advice on brushing and flossing, which is concise and to the point.

self care and your teeth will care for themselves

This would be ideal leaflet to give out at schools as well as the dentist

More on prevention

The revised leaflet is helpful especially the advice on fluoride that sticks in my mind. More ideas on how to stop gum disease would be helpful rather than having a big section on early and late stage gum disease with the consequences.
